The Applied Percussion Course at Strumwoods is a dynamic, multi-instrumental training program crafted for students who want to explore rhythm through both traditional and contemporary percussive styles. Covering Octapad, Cajon, and Tabla, this course builds a strong rhythmic foundation while nurturing creativity, versatility, and real-world performance skills.

Students begin with fundamental concepts such as hand techniques, stick control, posture, timing, groove awareness, and ear training. They learn the core rhythmic frameworks — including taals, patterns, grooves, bols, subdivisions, and syncopation — that form the backbone of any skilled percussionist.

As learners progress, each instrument is explored in depth:

🎛 Octapad

Students master sound selection, dynamic control, pattern programming, pad sensitivity, and performance techniques across genres like pop, EDM, rock, fusion, and Bollywood. They also learn to perform with backing tracks, loops, and live band setups.

🪘 Cajon

Training focuses on bass–slap techniques, tone shaping, finger control, groove creation, world rhythms, and ensemble playing. Students learn how to support acoustic sets, live gigs, unplugged sessions, and contemporary music arrangements.

🥁 Tabla

Learners dive into bols, kaidas, relas, tukras, tihais, taal structures, hand precision, speed-building, and expressive phrasing — combining classical discipline with modern musical application.

A hallmark of this course is our studio-integrated rhythm training, where students record their percussion performances, learn mic placements for each instrument, practice playing with click tracks, and understand how percussion shapes a song’s arrangement in real production.

With rhythm labs, ensemble sessions, improvisation workshops, stage-practice modules, and interactive masterclasses, students develop not only technique but also musical intuition and performance confidence.
